# Grok Build

> Connect the Grok Build coding agent to Darwin Browse over remote MCP.

Add Darwin as a remote HTTP MCP server. Grok Build handles the OAuth browser flow and makes Darwin's tools available alongside its built-in coding tools.

```bash theme={null}
grok mcp add --transport http darwin https://mcp.darwin.so/mcp
```

## First request

Once Darwin's tools appear in the agent, paste this request:

```text theme={null}
Search Darwin for an executable capability for
this task. Show the best result and its terms.
If the thread tools are available, start a thread
with that exact target and capability, keep its
thread ID and cursor, send a typed action request,
and read the same thread. Stop for any requested
confirmation, connection, payment, or approval.
```

Use [xagent's MCP server guide](https://docs.x.ai/build/features/mcp-servers) for current client behavior and configuration scopes.

## Verify the connection

```bash theme={null}
grok mcp doctor darwin
grok mcp list
```

Open `/mcps` in the Grok Build TUI if you need to authenticate, refresh the tool list, or disable the server. A successful connection exposes Darwin's current tools under the `darwin` namespace; compare them with the [MCP reference](/docs/interfaces/darwin/mcp) if verification fails.

<Note>
  Direct MCP installation works now. Darwin's public Grok Build plugin is awaiting xAI marketplace review in
  [plugin-marketplace PR #913](https://github.com/xai-org/plugin-marketplace/pull/913).
</Note>

## Choose the right scope

| Scope | Use it for |
| - | - |
| User | Your personal Darwin connection across local projects. |
| Project | A shared `.grok/config.toml` entry without committed credentials. |
| Managed | Organization policy that controls approved MCP servers. |

Keep OAuth credentials in Grok Build's credential store. Never commit tokens, authorization headers, or Darwin API keys to `.grok/config.toml`.

## Preserve Darwin's authority boundary

Repository access and Grok Build permissions do not grant Darwin approval authority. Use Search to compare capabilities, preserve the exact selected IDs, and let Darwin's typed thread requests, revisions, and operation states determine what can happen next.

<Warning>
  A model-authored message is not an approval, payment, authentication result, or completed operation. Read the current
  thread events and operation states before every consequential next step.
</Warning>
