# GitHub Copilot / VS Code

> Connect Darwin to an MCP-capable VS Code coding workflow.

Register `https://mcp.darwin.so/mcp` in the MCP configuration supported by your current VS Code or GitHub Copilot environment, then sign in to Darwin when prompted.

## First request

Once Darwin's tools appear in the agent, paste this request:

```text theme={null}
Search Darwin for an executable capability for
this task. Show the best result and its terms.
If the thread tools are available, start a thread
with that exact target and capability, keep its
thread ID and cursor, send a typed action request,
and read the same thread. Stop for any requested
confirmation, connection, payment, or approval.
```

<Steps>
  <Step title="Connect Darwin">
    [Install Darwin in VS Code](vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22darwin%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fmcp.darwin.so%2Fmcp%22%7D) or add `https://mcp.darwin.so/mcp` in the current MCP settings. Shared workspace configuration may contain the server metadata, never a personal credential. Complete browser authorization only when a protected tool needs it.

    **Success:** Darwin appears in Copilot's tools without a secret in the repository.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search and choose a result">
    Ask Copilot to Search for an executable capability. Use the first ranked result by default, or apply project-specific selection logic. Keep its exact `agent` and nested `capability` identifiers.

    **Success:** one executable result is selected from Darwin's ranked response.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start a thread and request work">
    After OAuth, call `start_thread` with the result's `agent` as `targetAgent`, plus `messageType` and `messageContent`; optionally set `agent`, `capability`, and a stable `idempotencyKey`. Keep the returned `thread` and `cursor`, then read progress with `get_thread`.

    **Success:** Darwin returns a durable thread ID and ordered history. Acceptance is not delivery or completion.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Keep shared workspace configuration free of personal credentials. Darwin's browser authorization supplies the user-scoped connection; the repository should contain only non-secret server metadata when configuration is intentionally shared. Follow the same Search → select exact revision → Act workflow used by every Darwin interface.

<Warning>Repository trust and terminal access do not authorize Darwin spending, approval, or provider access.</Warning>
