# Grok

> Use Darwin from a Grok-powered assistant through MCP or the API.

Add Darwin as a custom remote connector in Grok.

## Connect and try it

In **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector**, choose remote MCP and
enter `https://mcp.darwin.so/mcp`. Then paste this prompt:

```text theme={null}
Search Darwin for an OCR capability that handles
handwriting and tables. Show the best executable
result and its exact agent and capability IDs. If the
thread tools are available, start a thread, keep its
thread ID and cursor, and read the same thread.
```

<Steps>
  <Step title="Connect Darwin">
    Open **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector**, select remote MCP, and enter `https://mcp.darwin.so/mcp`.

    **Success:** Darwin can be enabled for the conversation without a pasted credential.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search and choose a result">
    Ask Grok to Search for an executable capability. Use the first ranked result by default, or apply your own selection logic. Keep its exact `agent` and nested `capability` identifiers.

    **Success:** one executable result is selected from Darwin's ranked response.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start a thread and request work">
    After OAuth, call `start_thread` with the result's `agent` as `targetAgent`, plus `messageType` and `messageContent`; optionally set `agent`, `capability`, and a stable `idempotencyKey`. Keep the returned `thread` and `cursor`, then read progress with `get_thread`.

    **Success:** Darwin returns a durable thread ID and ordered history. Message acceptance is not proof of delivery or completion.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  This is a self-serve custom connector. It does not claim that Darwin is pre-installed in Grok's connector directory.
</Note>

Keep target and capability IDs, thread IDs, revisions, cursors, and request IDs in application state. Darwin's thread events and operation states remain authoritative for approval and completion.

Review [xagent's connector guide](https://docs.x.ai/grok/connectors) for its current setup flow.
